Research shows working week is getting longer
The working week is getting longer, according to new survey published by professional body, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
The survey found the numbers working more than 48 hours a week has risen from 10% in 1998 to 25% in 2003 and that women work half a day longer each week than five years ago. More than a quarter of the respondents said they had suffered from stress or depression as a result of working long hours. A majority of long hours workers say that working long hours has affected their performance at work.
