Sunday working victory

Shopworkers' union USDAW has won a case for one of its members who took a claim against the supermarket giant Safeway after he was dismissed for refusing to work on a Sunday. General secretary Bill Connor said the ruling confirms that the union was right "to insist on these legal rights and to stand up for retail staff".

Retail workers in post as at 25 August 1994 and who were not employed as Sunday-only workers have the legal right to refuse to work on Sundays.
