Union forces asbestos move

Workers will not have to work in a Lewisham council building while disturbed asbestos is removed, after a campaign by general union T&G. Management at the London council had refused to move workers while the work was going on, claiming there were no alternative offices and giving assurances that the building was safe. T&G members resolved not to work in the buildings and insist on a move at two well-attended union meetings. The council finally conceded in November, relocating staff who were unhappy.
