Safety reps in schools

Schools in Brent have benefited from the increasing role of safety reps, according to the London borough’s council leader.

Ann John told nearly 300 delegates at the Safe schools, healthy schools conference last month: “The number of trained school safety reps and safety committees in Brent has risen to well above the national average, and that means Brent schools are becoming safer and healthier.”

Safety reps can now be found in 71% of Brent schools – up from 22% in 2003 – while the number of schools with safety committees has risen from 3% to 22%.
