Gay advice service faces closure
Lesbian and Gay Employment Rights (LAGER) - which has advised and represented lesbians and gay men facing discrimination at work for 20 years - is facing imminent closure due to funding cuts.
The crisis comes only months after the introduction of legislation to outlaw discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sexual orientation.
When the law came in last December there was no statutory body established to provide advice and enforce the legislation. This means that the role of advising and representing individuals has fallen to organisations such as LAGER.
LAGER has said that it will close down entirely on 30 April 2004 unless new funds are urgently received and is calling on trade unions and others who support their work to help. Contact Phil Greasley, Project Director, telephone: 020 7704 2205 or e-mail: [email protected]
