Union protests at plan to alter clocks

The CWU communication workers’ union is concerned at a parliamentary bill which could create lighter evenings and darker mornings by altering the UK’s clocks.

Under the Lighter Evenings (Experiment) Bill, a three-year trial starting on 29 October 2006 would put UK time one hour ahead of GMT during winter and two hours ahead of GMT in the summer.

The union points out that postal workers and telecom engineers would be especially adversely affected by the change, and many others would be at risk of road accidents on dark mornings.
