Resources aim to improve worker involvement

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched new resources to help employers involve workers in health and safety management. Part of a new “worker involvement” website, the tools provide a wealth of help and advice, including an involvement checklist and simple assessment tools.

“The active involvement of workers is fundamental to good health and safety management,” said Zoe Woodrow, policy adviser in the HSE’s worker involvement programme. “However, we know that many employers find it a difficult area to address. These resources provide a range of examples and suggestions that we hope will help employers and managers to encourage joint problem-solving in their workplaces.”

The materials include case studies of worker involvement from a range of organisations, including broadcaster BSkyB, defence electronics firm SELEX Sensors and Airborne Systems, sealant and adhesive supplier Geocel and the National Probation Service.

The resources are available at www.hse.gov.uk/involvement
