Equal value victory

Fifty-four members of the GMB general union working for Mansfield District Council recently won a total of £62,000 in equal value claims. The mainly part-time women cleaners compared their terms and conditions with street sweepers.

GMB official Colin Todd said: "The cleaners had no bonus payments like the street sweepers who were predominantly male, so the council was guilty of sex bias in the pay formulae."
