LRD executive committee
The new Labour Research Department (LRD) executive committee will take office next month and will include three new faces. These are: Gary Jones, a member of the national executive committee of the Communication Workers' Union; Steve Lewis, research officer with the Prison Officers' Association; and James Burke, secretary of the Dover local government branch of public services union UNISON.
The other members of the committee are (with nominating organisation/individual and year first elected in brackets): Sam Apter (Amicus [MSF] London Region - 1994); Dave Baker (Kent GPMU - 1986); Eddy Batchelor (T&G - 2000); Helen Donoghue (AUT - 1990); Chris Finnerty (Prospect - 2000); Dave Gott (RMT Yorkshire & Lincolnshire Region - 1990); Mary Nicholas (Medical Research Council Staff Side - 1991); Ian Rashbrook (ASLEF - 2000); Alan Sapper (himself as individual affiliate - 1960); Peter Terry (UNISON Eastern Region - 2001); and Enrico Tortolano (PCS - 2000). There were 14 nominations for the 16 seats and so no election was necessary.
The position of honorary treasurer is elected separately and Howard Marchant was nominated by Connect. Howard has been on the committee since 1984.
