Prospect leader

Mike Clancy has been elected unopposed as general secretary of 120,000-strong professionals’ and managers’ union Prospect. He will take up the post on 1 January 2013 on the retirement of current leader Paul Noon.

Clancy has been the union’s deputy general secretary since 2005 and has been a full-time officer with Prospect and one of its predecessor unions, the Engineers and Managers’ Association, since 1989.

The union is the product of several recent mergers and is now the 11th largest TUC affiliate. Clancy said he looked forward to “further cementing the union’s reputation as the fastest growing union for professional engineers and other specialists across the public and private sectors”.
