BBC shift on pensions

The BBC came forward with new pension proposals in September as three unions (BECTU, the NUJ and Unite) announced dates for strikes against capping of the final salary scheme.

Rather than see pension increases limited to 1% a year (irrespective of pay awards or promotion), members would switch to a new career average scheme based on 7% employee contributions and a 1/60th accrual rate. The unions are consulting their membership on the proposal.
