Housing costs lower inflation

Inflation was lower on the back of lower housing costs and food prices, the Office for National Statistics said. Under the Retail Prices Index (RPI), the rate of inflation was 4.5% in October, against 4.6% the previous month.

But higher fuel prices saw inflation rising under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), which was up to 3.2% from 3.1% the previous month.

The CPI is the measure used by the government.
