Blacklisting

Union activist Mick Dooley won the first round of his blacklisting battle against Balfour Beatty last month when an employment tribunal ruled that he had a valid claim against the construction giant.

Dooley claims he was released from one of the firm’s London sites in 1993 because of information held on him on the blacklist kept by Ian Kerr’s The Consulting Association (see page 12). Kerr was fined £5,000 for data protection breaches earlier this year.

Dooley’s claim has been listed for a four-day hearing in January.
