UCATT appoints George Guy as acting general secretary

The executive council of construction union UCATT has appointed George Guy as acting general secretary following the instruction by the certification officer that it must re-run its 2009 leadership election.

Guy, currently North West regional secretary, will take the place of Alan Ritchie, who was forced to stand down in March when the election was nullified after complaints about it were upheld.

The executive council has lodged an appeal against the certification officer’s ruling.
