Transport alliance

A “trans-Atlantic alliance” has been agreed between the RMT transport union in the UK and the Transport Workers Union of America to strengthen opposition to aggressive transport companies operating on both sides of the Atlantic.

The unions say they will co-operate on safety issues, launch joint campaigns targeting employers in common and advance a global strategy on behalf of workers and unions.

The RMT says the alliance will “send shivers down the spine of union-hostile operators like First Group and Stagecoach who have major operations in both the UK and north America.”
