Falling pay sparks euro-wide demo
Downward pressure on pay across Europe has led the European Trade Union Confederation to organise a demonstration for higher pay on 5 April in Ljubljana the capital of Slovenia.
In a statement the ETUC said that “at present wages and salaries in Europe are on a downward spiral” and called on European governments to stop thinking of wage moderation as a solution to their problems.
As well as major struggles on pay in Germany and France, pay is also a major issue in Slovenia, where negotiations on a pay rise for the private sector broke down as Labour Research went to press.
