French court rules against unions’ case
A French court has decided against the unions in a case where the works council had previously successfully argued that it had not been given sufficient information.
An earlier ruling in July had found that a planned merger between two French banks could not go ahead because the works council had been inadequately informed about its employment consequences (see Labour Research, September 2009, page 8).
Management then called on a higher court to look into the issue. It has now concluded that enough information was provided and that the merger can go ahead as planned.
