Levy for campaign

Extra funds may be raised by the TUC from its affiliates for the next two years to help step up the campaign for alternative economic solutions.

Its report to Congress in September outlines a strategy involving the development of “detailed economic policies that can win expert and popular arguments that can defeat the misleading messages used by the coalition”.

But the general council says this will require resources. It “has in mind” to add an additional 10p per member per year to the affiliation fee charged to unions over the next two years, an idea that will be formally considered by a special executive committee in early October. If confirmed, it will raise a campaign fund (on top of resources from the TUC’s development fund) of £1 million a year.
