BME students Googled
Internet giant Google has decided to continue with its Top Black Talent mentoring scheme after a one-year pilot which won the Race for Opportunity award by the Business in the Community charity. The scheme, which targets black and ethnic minority (BME) students studying for technology degrees, was piloted in May 2010 and offered students eight weeks of mentoring by Google staff.
Students accessed the pilot through their university’s BME network and first had to attend the company for a day to discuss their skills and future career options. Some were then invited to apply for the scheme, which has now also been extended to include students from business courses.
