BECTU takes cause to visual effects
A concerted recruitment campaign is underway among staff and freelances working in the visual effects industry, known as VFX.
Over 300 VFX workers attended a meeting in central London earlier this month called by media union BECTU. Many joined the union on the spot and the meeting overwhelmingly voted to back BECTU’s offer to organise the sector. The union is offering VXF workers a special £10 a month subscription fixed for two years.
The union says the VFX sector, squeezed by film and TV production companies, are engaging in a “destructive race to rock bottom, paying fewer artists to do more work in a shorter space of time”.
BECTU also wants the employers to set up an association to engage with the union to promote improvements in working conditions.
