Partnership forged

Two of the biggest public sector unions, UNISON and the PCS, are joining forces to campaign, co-ordinate and take action together against the government’s cuts to jobs and services.

The unions, together representing 1.7 million workers, have set up a national liaison group to promote joint activity and co-ordinate a national campaign. The group will work with the TUC and co-ordinate public sector alliances across central and local government.

To help forge the partnership, the PCS and UNISON are to organise an event to bring together trade unionists, politicians, academics, and voluntary and community groups.

In addition, the unions are to twin their regional officers and organisers, develop regional campaign teams and hold regional events and road shows.

They are also aiming to develop support links at local level between members and activists, including joint workplace and public meetings.
