Don’t delay on dangerous dogs
The coalition government should allocate time to the draft Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Bill into law, the CWU communications workers’ union said. The draft clauses include extending the law on dangerous dogs to private property, where the law currently does not apply in England and Wales.
Junior minister Lord de Mauley has asked the House of Commons environment, food and rural affairs select committee to comment on the two clauses by 29 April, as it was the government’s intention “to legislate for these changes at the earliest opportunity”.
However, the CWU is concerned that any delays in getting the Bill into law will deny more dog attack victims access to legal protection.
