Dangerous dogs proposals

The government has announced a consultation on tackling dangerous dogs.

It proposes the compulsory microchipping of dogs, as well as creating a criminal offence of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control on private property and giving the police more discretion over the seizing and kennelling of dogs.

Billy Hayes, general secretary of the CWU communications workers’ union, said “Government action is well overdue and thousands of people have suffered debilitating injuries while the government has dragged its feet.”
