TUC meeting targets homophobia in sport

The TUC lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender committee held a fringe meeting during last month’s Congress in Liverpool, focusing on the need to tackle homophobia in sport.

The meeting was backed by Liverpool Football Club with speakers from the PFA footballers’ union and one of the sport’s governing bodies, the Football Association.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: “Unions are now joining the campaign to rid sport of this bigotry and intolerance, so that sportsmen and women no longer face harassment, intimidation, ridicule, violence or ostracism simply because of their sexuality.”
