Pay: Union Welcomes 2025/26 Pay Offer for Prison Officers

Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood MP has announced a 4% pay rise for prison officers in 2025-2026. In her statement, the Minister said: "Having carefully considered the 13 recommendations, I can announce that we are accepting in full the recommendations made by the Prison Service Pay Review Body (PSPRB) for all staff within their remit."

Responding to the announcement, Gavin Miller, Community’s National Secretary for the Justice and Custodial Sector, said: “Having contributed to the PSPRB's report, Community welcomes the government’s decision to accept the body’s recommendations in full. A 4% pay rise for prison officers and staff is the least our members deserve. Their dedicated service through challenging times has helped hold together a justice sector facing enormous challenges after fourteen years of Tory neglect.

“We welcome the Minister’s commitment to stabilising the recruitment and retention situation across the justice and custodial sector – a vital priority given the large number of experienced staff who left the sector since 2010. Today’s announcement on pay is a positive signal of intent, and an indication of Labour’s serious approach to fixing our justice system. We look forward to contributing to future reviews to support our members in the public and private sector.”
