Pay breakdown in France

Around one-fifth (19.2%) of total pay in the private sector in France is made up of additions to basic pay.

The latest figures, published by the ministry of labour research body DARES, cover 2014. They show that the most important extras are: individual performance bonuses (3.9% of the total); long-services payment (2.0%); overtime (1.9%); and supplements linked to difficult working conditions (1.4%).

Employees also receive additions equivalent to 3.4% of their earnings in the form of employee saving schemes.

There are big differences between industries: individual bonuses are paid most frequently in finance and insurance, while construction is the industry in which most overtime is worked.
