Italian government signs delayed three-year deal

The Italian government has agreed a pay deal with the unions covering around 225,000 employees in central government. Although signed on 21 December 2021, it covers the three-year period from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2021, with an average €105 a month increase for 2021 and a backdated payment of around €1,800 for the remainder of the pay period. The agreement also improves arrangements for so-called “agile working” (working away from the office) and introduces a new pay structure from 2022

FP CGIL, the main union involved, estimates that the deal is worth around 5.0% overall, above the December 2021 inflation figure of 3.9%.
