PCS withdraws from stewards network
The PCS public and civil service union has withdrawn from the cross-union National Shop Stewards Network, which was set up to establish relationships between reps and stewards across the labour movement and support unions’ campaigns and disputes.
The union had been one of the original supporters of the NSSN when it was set up by the RMT transport union annual conference in 2007.
However, the PCS national executive committee agreed that the network was “closely aligned to the Socialist Party … which has consistently engaged in political attacks on PCS”. It therefore formally withdrew, saying that “our association with the NSSN not only has no material benefit for members but is in fact damaging to PCS and the wider movement.”
