Inflation slows

Retail Prices Index inflation slowed by a full percentage point in April, rising at an annual rate of 3.3%.

The Consumer Prices Index rose by 2.3%, with a housing element (CPIH) by 3.0%.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) highlighted the impact of falling gas and electricity prices on these trends.

However, the cost of motor fuels has been rising this year after falling a year ago.
