Rising trend in NHS staff burnout
A new report monitoring staff retention in the NHS, Should I stay or should I go?, identifies psychological stress, workload, staff shortages and pay as the top four reasons why staff leave the NHS.
Researchers at the University of Bath Institute for Policy Research surveyed 1,500 NHS workers through a YouGov panel and found reports of symptoms of burnout showed a rising trend, with 1:2 reporting "feeling very tired or drained" most days.
They also reported that nearly a third of NHS staff are requesting details of jobs outside the health service.
SoR director Dean Rogers said the way NHS staff are treated "too often falls below expectations" in any safe workplace. "For many, leaving is the only healthy option."
