Rights devastated under Brexit Bill

The Unite general union accused the government of “setting fire” to workers’ rights in its “forever war” against workers that will see them become ever poorer amid a chronic cost-of-living crisis.

The union hit out as the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill (see Labour Research, December 2022, pages 9-11) returned to Parliament for its report stage last month.

It said the Bill will destroy long-standing protections concerning holiday pay, pregnancy, equality and health and safety, including the removal of laws preventing exposure to hazardous substances at work.

The UNISON public services union said the Bill could have a devastating impact on disability protections.
