Harassment toolkit

The EHRC equality watchdog and the Independent Society of Musicians (ISM), the professional body for musicians, have published a toolkit to support orchestra managers and those with HR responsibilities to prevent sexual harassment in the industry.

This follows a 2022 survey carried out by the ISM revealing that two-thirds of respondents had experienced discrimination while working in the music sector, with over half of those incidents involving sexual harassment.

The EHRC says the toolkit, Preventing sexual harassment at work: a toolkit for orchestras is of relevance to the wider music industry, and provides advice on steps to take to prevent sexual harassment.

The EHRC is encouraging managers across the music sector to use it.
