Pensions campaign

The Unite general union’s retired members national committee has joined forces with the National Pensioners Convention and the Scottish Pensioners Forum to launch a new “68 Is Too Late” campaign opposing any further rises in the state pension age (SPA).

The campaign kicked off with a demonstration outside Parliament and a march to deliver a petition with almost 40,000 signatures to the work and pensions department.

The government planned to bring forward the SPA rise to 68, potentially as soon as 2037, but has delayed the decision until after the next election. Unite called on the government to “make it absolutely clear” it will abandon plans to increase the SPA, which is already too high, and not just postpone it.
