The NUJ journalists’ union has decided to abolish the century-old titles for its key workplace representatives of “mother of chapel” and “father of chapel”.
At the union’s annual conference, delegates narrowly agreed that these should be replaced in the union’s rulebook with “chair of the chapel”.
Behrang Tajdin, of the union’s equality council, said the move was aimed at “making the union a welcoming, modern trade union for all journalists and media workers”.
