Unions sign government pay agreement

Italian public sector unions have finally signed a new three-year deal for employees in central government around four months after it was agreed in principle in January. The agreement runs from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2022 and provides for pay increases of between 4.2 and 5.6%, paid in three stages. Pay increases most for those at the bottom of the pay scale. These increases are below the current level of inflation, which was 6.0% in April.
