Little relief over inflation
There will be little relief at the very slight pause in the upward path of inflation in the year to May. Last month’s official figures saw Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation rise to 11.7% from 11.1% while the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) went up to 9.1% (from 9.0%); its equivalent with a housing element (CPIH) went up to 7.9% (from 7.8%).
Rising prices for food and drink, energy and transport all contributed.
