Follow Kellogg’s lead on abuse, says union

Retail workers’ union Usdaw has hailed a new domestic abuse policy agreed by Kellogg’s and called on other large employers to match the “breakfast giant’s” support for abused workers.

The new commitment includes 10 days’ extra paid leave for employees across Europe who’ve suffered domestic abuse, help with support meetings, and a one-off payment to cover the costs of a new bank account. There will also be a 24-hour confidential counselling service, and flexible working arrangements.

Usdaw national officer Dave Gill said: “We would urge all employers that haven’t yet done so to follow the lead of Kellogg’s and introduce workplace policies to support domestic abuse survivors, enabling them to recover from their experiences and rebuild their lives.”
