Regional bias hits pay

Women workers in “white-collar jobs” are being underpaid due to gender and regional bias, a survey by recruitment company Robert Walters has found. Women professionals in the West Midlands, and the north and east of England are underpaid when compared to male professionals in the same region and to women with equivalent jobs in London.

More than half of white-collar women in the West Midlands feel underpaid, as against 10% of men and 8% of women in London. Almost a quarter of women in the region had received no pay increase in the past year, compared with less than a fifth of men, while only 7% of women managers earned more than £55,000,
