Delivery workers

In Italy, delivery workers for the company Just Eat will in future be covered by the collective agreement for the transport of goods and logistics under a deal signed with unions on 29 March.

The settlement covers 4,000 so-called “riders” for Just Eat, and is significant as the first time food delivery workers have been covered by a collective agreement.

This means they are now treated as dependent workers, with pay linked to hours worked rather than meals delivered, as well as having other benefits such as holidays, sick pay, maternity and paternity leave.

The unions argue that including these workers in collective agreements is the best way to regulate the sector, which has greatly increased in size during the pandemic.
