TUC congress backs DVLA strikers
TUC Congress agreed to support the PCS public and commercial services union’s campaign for a full independent investigation into events at the DVLA driver and vehicle licensing agency in Swansea. The campaign included a call for transport minister Grant Shapps to resign, and a call of no confidence in DVLA chief executive Julie Leonard.
PCS members have taken strike action in a dispute over safety following a Covid outbreak involving more than 700 cases and one death.
Congress agreed that the situation at the DVLA “is indicative of the government’s disastrous handling of the pandemic, which has led to the deaths of tens of thousands of workers and millions of Covid-19 infections”.
