Guards on strike

Hundreds of security guards employed by G4S on a central government contract took strike action last month over pay.

The workers who assist in keeping staff and claimants safe at jobcentres around the UK, and who are represented by the PCS and GMB unions, are demanding a decent pay rise from their multi-billion pound turnover employer, which currently pays many just the statutory minimum.

So far G4S have refused to pay a decent pay increase to these security workers, many of whom face violence in the workplace every working day. Unions are demanding that G4S gets back round the table and starts to meaningfully address the chronic low pay experienced by these frontline staff.
