Union wins for workers

Following a “long-running battle”, the Unite union announced a win for the “Murphy 4” — four fitters and welders working for the Murphy International Ltd construction and engineering firm. The four were sacked in 2022 in what the union described as “an act of union busting”.

While the exact terms of the settlement are confidential, Unite said the four rejected the offer of reinstatement and received compensation.

Meanwhile, the United Voices of the World union says it forced the London School of Economics to back down and reinstate sacked cleaner Geovanny Moreno Buitrago, who played a pivotal role in organising the LSE cleaners’ strike in June 2023.
