Recognition agreements

The Unite general union has signed a voluntary recognition agreement with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) for staff below senior management level. The approximately 100 workers provide membership and organisational services, develop policy and advocate for those working in the profession.

Although it was a voluntary agreement, a ballot of staff was carried out in which nearly 72% voted in favour of recognition on a turnout of 90%.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said the deal was "the result of a positive and constructive relationship having been developed with the RCOT".

Meanwhile, the Prospect specialists' union achieved recognition on behalf of air traffic control workers at Gloucestershire Airport. The claim went through the statutory process, but a ballot was not required as nine of the 13 staff (69%) were already Prospect members.
