Negotiations on work for older employees fail

National negotiations in France on ways of making it easier for older employees to continue in employment seem to have failed. The government asked unions and employers to look at the issue, including ways of allowing older workers to retrain after last year's pension age increase. However, with the employers unwilling to agree to the introduction of new rights for older workers, the unions have so far unanimously refused to sign the "working life pact".
