Birmingham action contributes to major month of strikes at Amazon

Workers at Amazon’s new flagship HQ in Birmingham took two days of strike action in late March in support of their push for recognition for the GMB general union and pay of £15 an hour.

The action at the online giant’s Birmingham warehouse, a £500 million site that only opened its doors last October, came days after workers at the Coventry fulfilment centre walked out.

The union is awaiting the outcome of its bid for statutory recognition at the Coventry site. GMB Organiser Rachel Fagan said March had been one of the biggest months of strike action in Amazon’s history.

“Pressure on Amazon to do the right thing is growing and GMB members are determined to win the pay and union recognition they deserve,” she added.
