Inflation slows

The slowing trend continued with Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation at 4.3% for the year to March (from 4.5%) and Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation at 3.2% (from 3.4%).

CPI with a housing element (CPIH) remained unchanged, continuing to grow by 3.8%.

Core CPI inflation (excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco) rose by 4.2%. Motor fuel costs were one upward pressure, but housing costs rose faster too.
