Learning ‘should be a statutory right’
A campaign for a statutory right to learn for every UK citizen throughout their lives has been launched by academics, politicians and campaigners with the support of the TUC.
The Right 2 Learn campaign says the new entitlement would allow younger and older adults access to skills and learning courses. The right should be enabled and backed up by strong funding, information, advice and guidance, it says.
In the wake of the Covid pandemic and the chancellor’s forecast of 2.6 million people out of work by next spring, Right 2 Learn says there is a need for “millions of adults to be given the right to access learning to reskill and retrain for new employment and future careers as well as for personal development”.
