Get ready for new high-rise safety regime, regulator says
The BSR building safety regulator within the HSE is calling on owners and managers of higher-risk buildings to prepare for “a new wave of regulatory change” and ensure they are ready to “step up and comply”. The BSR was set up to protect high-rise residents from unsafe building practices in England in response to the Grenfell Tower fire.
Owners and managers have six months from April 2023 to register high-rise residential buildings which are 18 metres tall or higher, or at least seven storeys, with two or more residential units with the BSR. These buildings are defined as “higher-risk” under the Building Safety Act 2022. A named person must be responsible for maintaining their safety.
