Delivering victory

Members of the Unite general union have won union recognition at Yusen Logistics – the Wellingborough firm responsible for delivering Samsung mobile phones.

The 120 workers won their fight for union rights, despite resistance from the employer, after an organising campaign which grew the union’s membership from almost no members to 90% membership in the space of a few months.

Although it was evident that the workers wanted a union, the employer insisted on a workplace ballot. However, 97% of workers voted in favour of recognition.

Meanwhile, eight hauliers at chemicals distribution firm Brenntag UK based in Sunderland have won recognition for the URTU transport union.
