Union news

Apple workers

Apple retail staff in Glasgow have become the first to win union recognition at an Apple store after two-thirds of the shop’s mostly young workers voted in favour of representation by the GMB general union.

In what the union described as “an absolutely historic moment”, the 100 or so staff voted by 71% in favour of recognition in a ballot arranged with the Acas employment relations service. Turnout was 88%.

Meanwhile Labour leader Keir Starmer called on online giant Amazon to accept unionisation in the UK.
